Re: Anniversary Black out

Re: Anniversary Black out
Guys,
My tuner buddy finally got the file open
He said he didn't see anything out of the ordinary except he noted the MAF scaling looks lean based on that displacement and combination (a 6.0 liter with AFR heads).
I think he mentioned is was showing something like 37 grams per minute @ 10,000 HZ and he would have expected it to be in the 43 - 46 range with that size engine and all the airflow improvements we made (heads, intake, TB, etc.).
That was all he saw that he felt was potentially odd with the tune but is handicapped not seeing a data log of some chassis dyno runs with a calibrated wideband hooked up.
I cc'ed him in this email in case I may have translated his response to me inaccurately
Hope this helps...
-Tony
Réponse de mon tuner :
Tony,
I’ve street tuned the car (hoping to finalize the tune on the dyno).
Commanded AFR is -0.1% right with the Real AFR. (on the rich side)
(There is a wideband on the headers, before the cats, It’s more relevant than a wideband in the muffler on the dyno because the cats are corrupting the values.
The maf is correctly calibrated. 110% sure. 5 runs from 10 mph to 160 on the highway for WOT tuning. ;-))
The Maf Calibration vary with the airflow (airbox) … and the injectors values.
For example I’ve just found on the hptuners repository the tune :
I’ve find a Corvette with AFR Heads… 403 Shortblock! (tuned by J&G Tuning)
Smokinvette.com Z51 Project Car
403 Shortblock (built by LME)
11.6 CR
AFR 205’s with reworked 4” bore chambers and some light porting in key areas
Ported FAST 90 / Ported GM LS2 TB
Custom Comp Cam 244/244 XER lobes 113 LSA
ASP Underdrive pulley
Mezeirre EWP
Kooks 1.875 headers (with Cats btw!)
QuarterMaster clutch/flywheel assembly
M6 driveline with stock rear gears (3.42)
SVO “green top” 42” injectors
Vortex Ram air CAI (85 mm)
Nology ignition wires
… The values @10000 Hz is … even lower than Gilles cars : 280.34 g/sec. Gilles is 287 g/sec ;-). (bigger displacement !)
Stock value for a stock C6 LS2 is 273. (The C6 Z06 supercharged have done last week is 424 g/sec @ 10000, 33% more than Gilles’ car, I’m 260@10000 with my Head / Big CAM C5 5.7)
Btw I think it’s a really dumb comparison lol. If you mess with the injectors values, your MAF table will be all fucked up …
46 g/min is a 20% difference with 37 g/min…That’s a huge difference !!!! That’s mean that if I’d command 12.4 @WOT , the AFR with a 20% error will result to a 14.8 AFR. That’s … CRAZZZY !
I will verify that (again) on the dyno but I’m confident : It’s a real MAF calibration (200 miles of calibration), not the usual PE table hacking that the tuner shop usually do on the dyno. ;-).
I’m agreed with you, without a log file, you can’t have a real point of view on MAF or VE calibration.
A question for your tuner : Is he okay with the high octane table ? (that’s a more relevant information than the MAF calibration …).
I’ve ran with 25 degree timing @ WOT, previously the Gilles’ car was knocking on 23 degree (I’m 29 degree on my car dyno tuned).
The only way to determine it is the dyno. I’ve put 27 degree on the tune for the dyno (no knock with the stock knock sensor).
Gilles is currently 25 degree. It will help Gilles (less time on the dyno $$$) if your tuner buddy could send a base octane table for the LS2/Ported AFR combo. (I’ve spend 3 hours on the dyno for my LS1)
Best Regards,
Brice
P.S : Hum… the Maf Table on hptuners is calibrated in g/sec not in g/min …. Gille is 287 g/sec … ie 16 800 g/min (you have to multiply the g/sec by 60 to have the g/min ;-) ) !!! With 46 g/min, even at idle (4000 Hz) , the engine wouldn’t start
Reponse de Tony
You know what Brice...
It really sounds to me like you have a great handle on everything and based on your other combinations at 10K Hz, Gilles combo sounds exactly where it ought to be percentage wise IMO.
When you say Gilles car was knocking before, you mean with his former combination right? (Not the new one I just built).
I would say start your WOT runs around 26' of timing and work up from there. Most of my best results usually end up 27-29' total.
If I can get very close to my best run with a degree or two less timing that's how a usually leave it after getting a screen shot of the glory run to brag about on the Internet.....LOL
Spend the time to dial in Gilles combo....Im sure thats what he would want you to do.
It really sounds like your close and like I said have a great handle on the tune already.
Looking forward to some dyno numbers....call me if you like anytime.
Oh yeah....usually have best results with A/F in the 12.6 - 12.8 range at peak TQ and a little leaner at peak power (12.8-13.0). Some combo's even like low 13.0's at peak power....they are always just a little different from one to the next but in the 13.0 range is always in the ballpark.
Thanks,
Tony

- faut savoir faire a bouffer
